About us

Alpine Altar is the love child of Sera and Siobháin, a Wānaka wedding planner and celebrant.

Alpine Altar then grew its wings and sass with thanks to a group of passionate wedding peeps we know and trust.

Our mission? To provide a wedding experience that’s EASY, taking away the hassle of checking weather forecasts,
checking vendor availability, trying to line it all up. Enough!

This is a new experience for elopements and weddings here in New Zealand. The difference? It’s inside, where it’s warm, it’s a vibe and
makes it easy for our couples, still with some photo ops around the grounds.

Keeping your wedmin to a minimum.

The Venue – Cardrona Church

Tucked away in the Cardrona Valley, this little church has had quite the glow-up. It’s as unique as our Alpine Altar couples and the chef’s kiss of venues for a small and intimate wedding or elopement in the Wānaka and Queenstown area.

Originally a miner’s hangout beside the historic All Nations Hotel, it survived a fire that took the rest of the building. It later became a Catholic church, then made a move down the valley in the 1950s to serve the growing Wānaka community.

Fast forward a few decades, it was decommissioned and nearly demolished in 1985… until locals stepped in, saved it, and brought it home to Cardrona, restoring it with care.

Now, it sits right where it belongs, full of character, history, and stories.

It’s just a stone’s throw from Cardrona Hotel for pre- and post-wedding celebrations.
